Stila Convertible Color | 'Petunia'

Look at that smily tan face above! Won't be here for much longer. I can feel my tan seeping out of my pores as we speak... Wah (sad face) but I digress. Today, we are here to talk about one of my favourite things. Blusher. It was the Christmas of Blushers for me as I received three of them! I've had my eye on these Stila ones for quite a while as my mom used to have a few in her makeup kit and I'd always have to ask, "What's it for?!" I could never grasp the concept of a cream blush, which looks a bit like lipstick in a flat pan, but is for your cheeks. I was flabbergasted to say the least. But here I am, just a few years later and lightyears more knowledgable. What a babe of a color this is, especially with tan skin. I am very impressed by the wear time and the pigmentation.

It was hard to pick up the exact colour in the pictures above but I tried my best. I really love this little bugger and I hope that it will last for a long while. This is $25 which is a bit to fork out for a blush but as I said before, the wear time is phenomenal and the colour payoff is out of this world.

What's your favourite Stila colour?

Top 13 of 2012 | Part One

Hmm... Well, I started with 10 of 2012, then moved to 12 and settled at 13... I just had a lot of products that I've loved, okay?! This is going to be a post split into two parts, the first one (this one, duh) is going to be skin care/hair care/ brush care/face care/all of the above and the second one (up in a few days, don't you worry) is going to be makeup, plus some other bits and bobs. Here we go!
All the family together. What a happy bunch they are! Look at their dazzling, smiley faces!

 01. Moisturizers
I struggled to find a good moisturizer this year after having a bad bout with products at the beginning of last year. With a basic drug store brand, I was breaking out left and right. Thankfully, my mom introduced me to the idea that maybe spending a little more money now is better in the long run. These are the ones I've been loving. The Bobbi Brown Hydrating Face Cream is what I use in the mornings and Origins High-Potency Night-A-Mins (a new discovery, though I couldn't leave it out!) is what I use at night.
 02. Haircare
This year, I've definitely become more involved in the upkeep and treatment of my hair. With many dyes comes a whole lotta repair, so these are the products that I've found have kept my hair healthy looking. The first is Aveda Smooth Infusion which works to fight frizz and keep my hair straight while I blow dry it. The second is the It's A 10 Miracle Leave-In Product which is just that... A miracle. I've used this for quite a while. On my fine, long, tangly hair, it never leaves me greasy. Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair is another product I've popped on in the last half of the year. My mother mistook it for a heat protectant but I snatched it up as soon as I could. The light formula works wonders while blow drying. And last but certainly not least is Oribe Supershine Light Moisturizing Cream. Absolutely a savior on particularly knotty, frizzy or unpredictable hair. Just pop a little bit between my fingers and apply to ends and fly aways.

03. Skin Care
The three hottest brands in my stash this year are Bobbi Brown (above), Origins and REN. I've loved using Origins Checks and Balances for a clean, fresh feeling face. To combat dehydration, I often use a bit of Origins Drink Up Mask for 15-20 minutes. Most of it soaks into the skin and requires just a quick wash. And the third product is REN Clearcalm 3 Acne Treatment Mask. While combatting heavy break outs earlier this year, I worked a lot with this mask. It got it's fair share of usage and I really love the way it makes my skin feel.
04. Miscellaneous
This category really has it all, I didn't quite know what to call it. I despise using face wipes but have really liked the Simple Cleaning Facial Wipes. They're handy to have for sleepovers, late nights, and sometimes early mornings. The Clarisonic Mia was another lifesaver during the bout with acne this year. I continue to love to use this though I have been using it less and less lately. I've always hated shaving my legs but with EOS Shave Cream in vanilla bliss, the pure scent makes me want to sometimes. I also really enjoyed Alba shave cream (not pictured). Lastly, this Daily Makeup Brush Cleanser has been so, so, SO handy in the last year. Being able to just scrub off a little product from a brush before taking pictures is so helpful. I still do a weekly deep cleanse but this saves me a ton of time.

Tarte Amazonian 12 Hour Blush | 'Dollface'

I received this from my sister for Christmas and was completely surprised by it! I've always wanted to try a Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush and I have to say... I'm curious what the hype is about? The colour is gorgeous, no doubt. It's beautifully light on the cheeks and gives a really healthy glow. The thing is that I have about five or six of these pinky shades of blushers. This colour does suit me best and gives me quite a healthy glow for my pale (read: deadly) skin tone.

The packaging is lovely, but a bit standard. I haven't been able to test out the actual wear time of 12 hours but if it really stays for that long, I think I'd understand the hype around it. It's very soft and works best for me with a stippling brush.

Stella | Eau de Parfum

This year, I decided that I needed a scent. You know that girl who always wears the same perfume, religiously, has a stash in every corner for her little fix and you can smell it waft over to you from across the Subway, despite the homeless man sitting next to you? Ah, yes. I decided to try to be more like her. I picked up the smaller bottle (1 oz) of Stella at Sephora a few days before Christmas and let me tell you... I've never been more in love with a bottle of perfume than I have been with this one. It's sophisticated, a bit girly, floral, and intense. With obvious direct notes of rose, it's balanced out by amber. Exactly like the rose it smells like, it makes me feel simply delicate. I know for sure that when I run out of this baby, I'll be picking up the 1.6 oz which retails at $72 versus this 1.0 oz at $50. They also have a rollerball version for $20, which I am still considering picking up to have handing in my bag.

Floral, sensual and grown up. The perfect match for what I was going for.

What's your signature scent?

Resolve

A new year comes with a lot of fears. Fears of what's to come, what I've left behind, who I'll encounter, what will become of me in the year ahead. It's not often that I do blog posts of the sort but I thought I'd like to start doing some more personal ones. You see, on my holiday I thought a lot about life and friendships and everything. Tuesday's with Morrie will do that to ya (highly recommend this read, it was thought provoking and tear jerking). This year I've got a few things on my mind in the likes of bettering myself, my happiness, and the people surrounding me. These are my resolutions, I sincerely hope you enjoy reading about my plans for the new year.

01. Be honest and open. This is pertaining to a particular place in my life but it goes for everywhere. I'd like to be more open, more compassionate. I'd like to hear the story from the guy on the bus next to me... To talk with people, get to know different people, maintain deep relationships with current ones. This year is one for not holding back. Demi Lovato said something on her Twitter the other night that really struck a cord with me (it was at a time that I was thinking exactly what she was saying to her 11 million followers), she said, "Patience plus communication equals trust. When you learn how to communicate with others, there's almost no problem you can't solve. P.S. Only surround yourself with people who you CAN communicate with. Trust is a bond between TWO people that is found ONLY when they are able to listen/understand where the other person is coming from. That, to me, is the key to friendships/relationships." Such profound words on a social media website at 1.04 AM, but it was exactly what I needed to hear at the time. I want to remember this.

02. Read more, write more. On holiday, I read about six books in seven days and wrote over ten pages worth of thoughts, reflections, etc. I remembered how much I love to read and love to write. Sometimes I am so distracted by everything, twitter, television, YouTube, music, people, relationships, family, friends, that I forget that just sitting to read/write for a few minutes is relaxing and rejuvenating. The year ended on a less than great note, but when I began to read and write again, it felt like all of these toxins were released from me. It was wonderful to be able to relax in such a simple way. To be able to escape through a story is the ultimate goal, and to reflect on life is where I hope to end more days at. I bought a journal while in Mexico, though I'm not in love with it, I'm going to try to write in it every day for 365 days. It's hard, but even a little snippet of wisdom can be good to reflect on.

03. Weed out the toxic people. Take breaks. Sometimes it is needed. This was all pertaining to a particular area in my life but it goes for many areas. I need to remember that I deserve happiness, and more often than not, happiness comes from being surrounded by people who care about me. Flush out the bad guys, let in the light and warmth and love that comes from good people. Remember also that sometimes a little break is exactly what is needed for a friendship to be recognized as missed. After too long, things can get boring, dull, but with a bit of revamping, communication and trust can be built again.

04. Take risks in everything. Don't play anything too safe. Be adventurous, be spontaneous. While I flipped through the December issue of NYLON magazine, I realized how much I adored that magazine. Unique, fresh and full of innovative ideas for fashion, I was inspired to spunk up my wardrobe, and take more risks. Who cares if people are judgmental?! You won't be remembered for wearing a boring outfit. Wear heels, lots of patterns, a bow in your hair, red lips, false lashes. Mix things up every once in a while. You don't need a whole new wardrobe, just a new outlook on it. As for life, start saying 'Yes'. What a classic resolution that is but I mean it. Saying yes to opportunities with create far better memories than sitting at home. Be unique, be inspiring. Make people say, "I'd love to life live like her!" because you are living yours so fully. Be completely different from everyone else and do not be afraid to takes risks.

05. Let go of grudges. With a new year comes a breath of fresh air, a sudden realization of what needs to be fixed in your life. Here is the point: let go of the stupid grudge you've been holding. Make amends, realize that no one is perfect. Forgive and forget, they say. Make an effort to be more kind to people. There is nothing like the feeling of letting go of a grudge you held onto for too long. It's a new year. Breathe and let go.

06. Become a better sleeper. A little less serious than the ones above, I'd really love to become a better sleeper. For example, last night I stayed up until 3 AM and woke up at 8... I'm walking around like a zombie. That's no way to live. From now on, I'd like to try my best to be a better sleeper. Turn off phone, laptop, etc. Keep them out of the bedroom, even! Place a book by your bedside and for fifteen minutes before bed, read it. Get an alarm clock if you need to. You don't need to hold onto your phone all the time. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night, even on weeknights.

That's all for now, folks. After that long winded speech, I'm off to slurp some coffee down and read my new book. And hey, if you have any recommendations for books, feel free to leave them down below!

Much love to you all xx

Puerto Vallarta Photo Diary

Happy New Year! What a year 2012 was for me... I'm so happy to see a new, fresh beginning arrive. I've got all my resolutions down now, I believe but here's what I've been up to while I was away... I traveled down on a 5.55 am flight to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I've been once before and it was even better this time. I love the small town feel of it, with surrounding mountains and opportunities for zip lining, hiking, and more, but the city atmosphere as you go towards the center! Here are some of the best pictures, including my sister, myself, the Cathedral, many cute restaurants, how we spent our NYE (eating in a house overlooking the great view of the mountains and city below us!!), the torrential downpour of rain on the last two days and the amazing decorations and scenery left over from Christmas. Hope you enjoyed and I have plenty of blog posts on the way.

How did you celebrate the New Year?

Big love to you all xxxx
